A compact syntropic system design for learning and demonstration. The systems has various fruit, berries and herbal crops.

This plot serves as our training and demonstration site – where farmers, students, and our own team come to observe, experiment, and learn syntropic techniques.

Our plot is part of a 1 hectare demonstration location – combined with a campsite – showcasing different agroforestry and food forest designs. Learn more.

PRODUCTIVE FOOD FOREST

WIJdehorst

LOCATION: Wassenaar

A production-focused syntropic food forest with 780+ productive trees and shrubs across 17 fruit, berry, and nut species, integrated with 10 herbal crops. Spanning 1.4 kilometers of tree lines across half a hectare, this site demonstrates commercial-scale syntropic farming adapted to sandy Dutch soils.

WIJdehorst functions both as a productive system and a living classroom. We work closely with the local community of 300+ volunteers, offering volunteering oppertunities in the food forest.

Our partner, Regeneratieve market garden WIJdehorst offers vegetable boxes, a a farmshop and organises inspiring events.

SYNTROPIC VEGETABLE PRODUCTION

Gorp & Roovert

LOCATION: Hilvarenbeek, Noord-Brabant

FOCUS: Annual and perennial vegetables

A commercial-scale syntropic system integrating vegetable production with fruit trees and timber species. Backed by VP Capital’s commitment to regenerative agriculture, this plot showcases how vegetable production can transition from conventional systems to nature-based polyculture that restores soil health while maintaining economic viability.

We operate the annual and perennial vegetable production within a 10-hectare food forest developed by VP Ecofood on Landgoed Gorp & Roovert. The system focuses on polyculture planting in vegetable beds between syntropic tree lines, combining short-term harvests with long-term ecosystem development.

WETLAND WITH SYNTROPIC TREELINES

Voedselmoeras Pijnacker

LOCATION: Pijnacker, Zuid-Holland
PLANT DATE: October 2026

FOCUS: Herbs and fruits

A unique syntropic design adapted for wetland conditions. This site demonstrates how syntropic principles can be applied to high water table environments on clay soils, focusing on herbs and berries suited to moisture-rich conditions.

This project is part of a 1-hectare edible wetland developed by Stichting Voedselmoeras Nederland at biological dairy farmer Dirk Gravesteyn’s farm in Pijnacker, with support from Greenchoice, Rotterdam de boer op!, and Stichting Wij.land.

The full site integrates diverse wetland herb species, wetland plants, and water plants adapted to high groundwater conditions and is setup to showcase new possibilities for peat meadow landscapes.
